Why Learn the Mouth Trumpet?
With this sound, you can:
Fake a real trumpet in minutes
Add melodies inside your beats
Stand out in routines and freestyles
Blend with bass sounds for powerful effects
Many people take years to learn the trumpet. You can imitate it today.
Step-by-Step Guide to the Lip Trumpet
Step 1: Say “T” or “Tor” in a Mickey Mouse Voice
Use a high, light, cartoon-like tone to position your tongue correctly.
This reduces breathiness and sets up the right airflow.
Step 2: Blow Air Through One Side of Your Lips
Lightly press your lips together and let air out of a small hole on one side, like an exhale of relief.
That’s your chest bass.
Step 3: Combine the Two
Put the voice and airflow together:
Mickey Mouse “T” + Side Airflow = Trumpet texture
If you hear a brassy buzz, you're on the right track.
Troubleshooting Common Mistakes
Problem 1: No Vibration
If no buzz comes out, your lip shape is probably too open or stiff.
Fix: Look in the mirror and lightly press your lips together. The hole should be small, not wide.
Problem 2: Breath Without Texture
If you only hear air, adjust your tongue or lips:
Try:
Folding your lips inward
Puffing them outward
Switch vowels too — “R” shapes work better than “E” or “A.”
Problem 3: Sound Coming Through the Nose
If your tone is weak or breathy, you might be unintentionally releasing air nasally.
Fix: Pinch your nose while practicing. If the sound changes, focus on pushing everything through the mouth.
Techniques to Add Style and Variation
Variation 1: Middle Lip Airflow
Push air from the center instead of the side.
Variation 2: Use Your Front Teeth
Make a buck-tooth face and say “T” — this brightens the tone.
Variation 3: Lip-Over-Teeth Position
Shape your lips like you’re saying “F” to get a higher, sharper sound.
Experiment with Voice Type
Chest voice gives a heavier, lower trumpet
Falsetto gives a light, bright tone
Add Attacks with “T” or “D”
Use your tongue for sharp beginnings: “Ta-ta-ta” instead of “ha-ha-ha”
Create Flutter with Tur or Tr
Use an “R” roll to simulate a trumpet flutter.
Combine with Bass
Layer with throat bass or uvula bass for growls and texture.
Practice Exercises
Exercise 1: Pitch Cycles
Move from low to high and back again using falsetto or chest voice. Hold notes while adjusting lip shape to improve tone.
Exercise 2: Jingle Bells with Tongue Attacks
Repeat the melody using tongue-attacked trumpet sounds to build control and consistency.
“Well-well” is a great exercise for control.
Exercise 3: Guess-The-Song Challenge
Play a melody using the trumpet sound and have someone guess the tune. This builds clarity and musical feel.
